March Cancellations and Options

Hello everyone,

Please note that there will be no badminton on March 17th and March 19th.  (Note: The Belleville club will have regular play these nights - http://www.bqyc.org/bbc/season/season.html)

That still leaves 8 nights of badminton in Madoc in March, two of which will be Round Robin Nights.

The Round Robin Nights are Tuesday March 3rd and Thursday March 26th.  If you intend to play in the round robins you must arrive by 7:20 and register with Mark who will then set up the draw sheets.  Players in round robins must prepared to stay till 9:30 if necessary. 

Even though most players will be in the round robins, there have been enough other players recently for regular play in the second gym.

February 10 & 19, Round Robin Nights

Hello everyone,

Just letting you know that February's Round Robin nights are Tuesday the 10th and Thursday the 19th. Remembering Bill

Hello everyone,

I thought you should know that Bill passed away recently.  Bill succumbed to cancer early Christmas morning.  He had been a member of the club since its very inception in January 2006 and will be sadly missed.  He didn't let double vision, knee, neck, shoulder and elbow problems keep him from playing and enjoying badminton, even though he knew those problems often interfered with his playing well.  Any hesitation in filling a court would have Bill anxious to go on and play even if he'd just come off.  Yet he was considerate and pleasantly gave up his turn in deference to others.  Gutsy, determined, happy and mild mannered, he remains an inspiration to me as I get on in years and cope with physical aging.  Bill was 84+ years old.

His wife, Mary, says there will be an April 5th memorial service at Trinity United in Madoc.  Donations in his name, if anyone wants to do that, can be made to the Heart of Hastings Hospice,17 McKenzie Street, Madoc, ON K0K 2K0.

New Year's Badminton

Hello everyone,

We hope you've had a good Christmas and ended the year well.

Tuesday Jan. 6th is the start of the winter/spring badminton session which runs to mid June on most Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 9:30 pm for regular play.  Everyone will have to pay session fees again which are unchanged at $40 for adults and $20 for juniors under 19 years old.  For those paying the by-the-night alternative, nightly fees are $5 for adults and $2 for juniors.  Fees should be paid before going on court.

Coaching is now scheduled from 6 to 7 pm on Tuesday nights which are preferred by our juniors.

January's two round robin nights are scheduled for Tues. Jan. 13 and Thurs. Jan 29.

Make a good start in 2015 by coming out to badminton.  If you're like us, you've taken in a lot of extra calories during the festive season so can look forward to burning the excess off on court while having lots of fun & laughs.

December Badminton

Hello everyone,

The fall badminton session is almost over.  Here is the year-ending schedule.

Tuesday Dec. 2:  Round robin night that requires you to register by 7:20 at the latest.

Thursday Dec. 4:  Coaching from 6 to 7 pm followed by regular play to 9:30.

Dec. 9 & 11: No badminton because school activities use both gyms. (You can play in Belleville at Quinte Christian High School for $5/night on those nights, starting at 8 and 7:30 respectively).

Tuesday Dec. 16:  Round robin night that requires you to register by 7:20 at the latest.

Thursday Dec. 18:  Coaching from 6 to 7 pm followed by regular play to 9:30.  There will be an informal gathering of players at the Barley Pub following the end of play.

Dec 23, 25, 30, & Jan. 1:  No badminton because of Christmas break.

Tuesday Jan. 6:  Start of the winter/spring session.  You will have to renew your memberships then.  The session can run to Jun. 18 if enough are interested.
