December Badminton

Hello everyone,

The fall badminton session is almost over.  Here is the year-ending schedule.

Tuesday Dec. 2:  Round robin night that requires you to register by 7:20 at the latest.

Thursday Dec. 4:  Coaching from 6 to 7 pm followed by regular play to 9:30.

Dec. 9 & 11: No badminton because school activities use both gyms. (You can play in Belleville at Quinte Christian High School for $5/night on those nights, starting at 8 and 7:30 respectively).

Tuesday Dec. 16:  Round robin night that requires you to register by 7:20 at the latest.

Thursday Dec. 18:  Coaching from 6 to 7 pm followed by regular play to 9:30.  There will be an informal gathering of players at the Barley Pub following the end of play.

Dec 23, 25, 30, & Jan. 1:  No badminton because of Christmas break.

Tuesday Jan. 6:  Start of the winter/spring session.  You will have to renew your memberships then.  The session can run to Jun. 18 if enough are interested.

Round Robin & Glen Crowley Nights

Hello everyone,

This is to let you know about some special nights in November. 

There will be round robin nights Tues. Nov. 11 and Thurs. Nov. 20, starting at 7:20 as usual.  There will be courts for regular play, but most players will be in the round robins.

November 25th will be our annual Glen Crowley Night.  For those few who don't know, Glen is the racquet sport specialist from whom we buy our  birds and club racquets and more.  He'll bring large displays with samples of stuff related to badminton, including clothes, shoes and sports bags, and usually has special racquets that people can try during the night. 

Light refreshments will be available on the 25th, and there will be no charge for guests. We'd like a large turnout to show our support for Glen.

Tues. Nov. 4th is cancelled

October Badminton

Hello everyone,

There will no badminton Thursday Oct. 9th or Thursday Oct. 23rd, which also means no coaching those nights.

Note that October's round robin nights will both be on a Thursday, namely on the 16th and the 30th. There will be coaching on those nights from 6 to 7 p.m.

September Round Robin Nights

This is to let you know that Tues. Sept 16 is the session's first Round Robin Night, with the second being Thurs. Sept. 25.  If you intend to play in one of the round robins you must arrive by 7:20 that night and register with Mark who will then set up the draw sheets. Players in the round robins must be prepared to stay till 9:30 if necessary. There will be courts for regular play but most players will be in the round robins.

Badminton is back Sep 9th!

Hello everyone,

We hope you're having a great summer and looking forward to badminton start-up even though that means summer is about over.  The 2014 fall badminton session starts on Tues. Sept. 9th, going from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Tues. and Thurs.  Gill Singh will once again be giving complimentary lessons on Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:00 in the small gym for all who are interested.

Session fees this fall are $20 or $2/night for juniors (under 19).  Adults are $40 or $5/night.  Please consider a membership.  There are 30 evenings available this session, an adult participating in 9 or more will have saved some money.  Participate in more than 16 and the cost is under $2.50/night.  Membership this year includes a guest pass so you can bring someone out at no charge and introduce them to the game.

The club's informal executive held a meeting following the last night of play in June. We wondered who else might be willing to help with the club this year and in planning for the future. Please let us know if you'd consider helping and we will schedule another meeting, one that will be open to everyone in that regard.

June 5th cancelled

Hello everyone,

Just letting you know that June 5th's badminton has been cancelled because of a school event. 

Nightly turnouts have been good even in the warm weather, so it looks like there's enough interest to keep playing until our permit runs out on June 12.

Coaching is over and resumes in Sept.

Hello everyone,

Gill tells me that the demand for coaching has dropped off now that we're close to the end of the season. As a result, there will be no more Thursday night coaching until badminton resumes in September. The calendar will be updated when it starts up again.

May/June Badminton

Hello everyone,

This is to let you know that we can play badminton as late as Thursday June 12th if there are enough people interested in playing at that time. That means there aren't many playing opportunities left in the season, so make an effort to get out as often as possible before the long summer break.

The last two round robin nights of the season are Tuesday May 6th and Thursday May 15th. As always, if you intend to play in one of the round robins you must arrive by 7:20 on those nights and register with Mark who will then set up the draw sheets. Players in the round robins must be prepared to stay till 9:30 if necessary. There will be courts for regular play if you don't want to play round robin, but most players will be in the round robins.

Badminton starts late tonight @ 8:00 p.m.

Hello everyone,

Coaching has been cancelled this evening.

Tonight is Parent-Teachers Night when parent-teacher interviews will be taking place. It's a night that's normally not available to us for badminton. This time we can play, but ...

THE PRINCIPAL INSISTS THAT NO BADMINTON PLAYERS ENTER THE GYMS BEFORE 8:00 P.M.  "Participants must NOT go in and set up until the interviews are finished."

IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE DO AS SHE WISHES SO THAT WE'RE NOT DISRUPTIVE.  

If the night goes well, I hope that future parent-teacher nights will be available for badminton too.

March Round Robins

Two Round Robin nights have been scheduled for March. The first is Tues. March 18th and second is Thurs. March 27th.

If you plan to participate please arrive and register before 7:20 so that we can organize and get the groups playing quickly enough so that all the games finish before 9:30.  Registering for the event requires that you be available for play until 9:30.

Not all courts will be used for the round robins. Players who don't want to participate or arrive too late can play on the unused courts.

Delayed Start - Thursday, Feb 6

Hello everyone,

Please note the following dates:

Feb. 6th will be a late start. A school event that night requires us to start at 8 pm in both gyms. Badminton will probably run from 8 pm to 10 pm that night.

Tuesday Feb 11 and Thursday Feb. 27 will be the month's round robin nights.

Round Robin Night!

Hello everyone,

Tuesday, January 21st, is the last Round Robin Night of the month.

If you plan to participate please arrive and register with Mike before 7:20 so that he can organize and get the groups playing quickly enough so that all the games finish before 9:30. Registering for the event requires that you be available for play until 9:30.

Players who don't want to participate are still asked to please register with Mike upon arrival.  This will ensure that enough courts are left available for players not involved in the round robin.
