Badminton is back Sept. 6th!

We hope you're having a great summer and looking forward to badminton start-up even though that means summer is about over.

The 2016-17 badminton season runs in two sessions, the first being from Sep. 6th to Jan. 31st, and the second being from Feb. 2nd to Jun. 15th.  Play goes from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every Tues. and Thurs. in both gyms.

Single session fees are unchanged at $25 for juniors/youths (under 19 yrs. old) and $45 for adults.   $10 discount if paying for both sessions at the same time.  Payment by cheque to “Centre Hastings Badminton Club” is preferred for session fees, for book-keeping reasons.

Payment must be made on your first night out to avoid having to pay any nightly fees.
Nightly fees remain unchanged at $2/night for juniors and $5/night for adults.  Players planning to pay the session fees must still pay the nightly fees until they make the session payment.  They will be credited 50% of nightly fees already paid.

As per last year, please use the “Sign In” book and sign in and pay before going on court.

We have also booked the small gym on Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:00 for coaching.  Instruction is available at no extra charge for juniors and novice adults in that time period, but must be prearranged with Henry who can be reached at 613-395-5798 or via email at henry.toews@yahoo.com.

Badminton schedules: this season and next season

We begin our last week of badminton with a round robin night on Tuesday June 14th and end the week with Pub Night on Thursday June 16th.

The customary 7:20 p.m. registration deadline and 14 year age restriction applies to those wanting to play in the round robins.

On Pub Nights, a few of us leave the club around 9:00 to 9:30 p.m. and go to the Barley Pub for snacks and socializing until around 10:30.  Everyone’s welcome to join in (even the juniors).

Looking back over the past season, if anyone has suggestions for improving badminton night enjoyment please email us (criticisms or otherwise) and we will address them as an Exec. during the summer break.

Looking forward beyond the summer break, badminton resumes on Tuesday September 6th and will run until Thursday June 15th, 2017.

Everyone, have an enjoyable and safe summer break.

March Badminton Schedule

Hello everyone,

Some notes regarding the March schedule.

1) No badminton at all during the school's March break (Tuesday March 15th & Thursday March 17th).  However, the Belleville Badminton Club has badminton for adults on those evenings at Quinte Christian High School which is at 138 Wallbridge Loyalist Rd. just north of Hwy 2.

2) Round Robin nights are on Tuesday March 8 and Thursday March 31 Tuesday March 29.  As usual, on RR nights participants must arrive and sign up with Mark by 7:15 p.m.  Participants must be at least 14 years old and must be able to stay until 9:30 if necessary.  Players can opt out and have regular play, but the experience of recent round robin nights is that everyone generally elects to play round robin.

Update

Hello everyone,

Here are some reminders, plus info about junior tournaments.

1) Members from the first session should use the nightly fee section if they haven't yet paid for the second session.

2) Tues. Feb 9th is a round robin night.  Participants must arrive and sign up with Mark by 7:15 p.m.  Participants must be at least 14 years old and must be able to stay until 9:30 if necessary.  Players can opt out and have regular play, but the experience of the past three round robin nights is that everyone turning out elected to play round robin.

3) We've received notices about five tournaments for junior players, as listed below. Juniors are those under 19 years old. Let's encourage our juniors and their friends to participate in one or more of the tournaments, if only for the experience.
Any juniors playing at our club are eligible for the COBA District tournaments because the club's a member of COBA.  The HDBC tournaments are open to any juniors that are high school or home-schooled students, and the students don't need to be playing at our club.  Tournament information will be posted at the club.

February's Badminton

Hello everyone,

Please take note of the following:

Tuesday Feb. 2nd is the first day of the season's second badminton session.  Your name will not be in the Session Members Section of that night's Sign in Sheet if you haven't already paid the session's fee; and you will have to pay nightly fees from that date onward until you pay the session fee.  People that play over two times a month will save money by paying the session fee up front since the session runs until June 16th.  Nightly fees are $5/$2 for adults/juniors, whereas the corresponding session fees are $45/$25.

Thursday Feb. 4th is cancelled because of school activities in both gyms.

Tuesday Feb. 9th and Thursday Feb. 25th are round robin nights that require participants to arrive and sign up with Mark by 7:15 p.m.  Participants must be 14 years or older and must be able to stay until 9:30 if necessary.  Players can opt out and have regular play, but the experience of the past three round robin nights is that everyone turning out elected to play round robin.

All Thursdays - The 6 to 7 p.m coaching session permit will be cancelled on Feb. 16th unless someone volunteers to do the coaching in place of Gill who isn't able to continue with the club at present.

That's February's update for now.

See you on court,
Terry, Dave, Mark, & Mike
