December's Regular & Round Robin Badminton

Hello everyone,

School events will affect some of December's play nights.  They won't be cancelled but start times and end times will be delayed by 1/2 hour in the large gym.  Small gym times will be unaffected.

December's full schedule now is as follows:
  • Tue. Dec.1 - Both gyms from 7:00 to 9:30
  • Thu. Dec. 3 - Small gym from 7:00 to 9:30; Large gym from 7:30 to 10:00
  • Tue. Dec. 8 - Small gym from 7:00 to 9:30; Large gym from 7:30 to 10:00
  • Thu. Dec. 10 - Both gyms from 7:00 to 9:30
  • Tue. Dec. 15 - Both gyms from 7:00 to 9:30
  • Thu. Dec. 17 - Small gym from 7:00 to 9:30; Large gym from 7:30 to 10:00
  • Christmas break - regular play resumes Tue. Jan. 5th

Note that December's two round robin nights are now Tuesday Dec. 1 and Tuesday Dec. 15.  There will be regular play on those nights for those that don’t enter the round robins.  Round robins are restricted to those 14 years and older.

As always: If you intend to play in one of the round robins you must arrive by 7:15 that night and register with Mark who will then set up the draw sheets. Players in the round robins must be prepared to stay till 9:30 if necessary.

Remember, we are now enforcing the requirement that juniors (those under 19 years old) wear eye protection on court.  Wearing of eye protection is a wise practice for adults too.  A limited number of safety glasses will be available for borrowing from the club until all junior players obtain their own.... (A Christmas present idea?)

See you on court,

Christmas Break & Coaching

Hello everyone,

Two updates for you.

Christmas Break:  The last night of badminton before the Christmas break is Thursday Dec. 17th, with resumption on Tuesday Jan. 5th.  There are only 8 more nights of badminton to enjoy before the break - they'll go by before you know it, so come out and play before the opportunity disappears.

Coaching:  To better accommodate members’ schedules, coaching will be held on Thursdays.  Coaching has been temporarily removed from the schedule pending the school board's approval of the related permit switch.  In the interim Gill is willing to give a limited number of one-on-one lessons on Thursdays during the 7:00 to 9:30 period.

The String Doctor

Hello all,

We would like to encourage everyone to take advantage of the services offered by Glen Crowley.

For those of you who don't know, Glen (aka The String Doctor) is chef and co-owner of Kelly's restaurant which is on Hwy. 37, between Tweed and Hwy. 7.  Glen specializes in racquet sports, is an Ontario B-level badminton player, and does onsite repairs etc. at many COBA district tournaments.  The club buys all of its badminton gear from Glen who handles our repairs and can advise players regarding which racquets and shoes will best suit a player's skills and objectives.

If you would like to purchase badminton items for Christmas please phone Glen on Wednesday through Sunday between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. (613-478-2113) or email him @ thestringdoctor@gmail.com and arrange to see what you're interested in at Kelly's.

Another alternative is to be at the Belleville Badminton Club at Quinte Christian High School on Loyalist Wallbridge Rd. where Glen will be with all his wares for sale on Tuesday Nov 24th from 7:00 p.m. till 9:00 p.m.

Thurs. Nov. 19 Round Robins & Reg. Play

Hello everyone,

Just letting you know that Thursday Nov. 19th is a round robin night.  There will be regular play for those that don’t enter the round robins.

This requirement is a condition of our club's memberships in the Central Ontario and Ontario Badminton Associations and because of the insurance they make available.  Wearing of eye protection is a wise practice for adults too.  A limited number of safety glasses will be available for borrowing from the club until all junior players obtain their own.

See you on court,
Terry, Dave, Mark, Mike, & Gill
