Nov. 3rd: Coaching, Round Robins, & Eye Protection

Hello everyone,

This is to let you know that coach Gill Singh has mended well enough to resume the Tuesday  6 to 7 p.m. coaching sessions.  He'll be on hand to coach those interested, starting this coming Tues. Nov. 3rd.

Nov. 3rd is also the first round robin night of November.  There will be regular play for those that don’t enter the round robins.  Round robins are restricted to those 14 years and older.  If you intend to play in one of the round robins you must arrive by 7:15 that night and register with Mark who will then set up the draw sheets.  Players in the round robins must be prepared to stay till 9:30 if necessary.

Starting Nov. 3rd, we will enforce the requirement that juniors (those under 19 years old) wear eye protection on court.  This requirement is a condition of our club's memberships in the Central Ontario and Ontario Badminton Associations and because of the insurance they make available.  Wearing of eye protection is a wise practice for adults too.  A limited number of safety glasses will be available for borrowing from the club until all junior players obtain their own.

See you on court,
Terry

Sign In Sheet requirements

Hello everyone,

Just reminding you that everybody must sign in and mark how much (if any) they pay on the nights they play before going on court.  The sign in sheets are always located in the main gym.

The sheets are split into one section for those paying nightly and one section pre-printed with the names of those who have paid the session's fee and don't pay nightly.

We were unable to reconcile last Thursday's sign in sheets either because some players didn't sign in or because some signed in but didn't indicate a payment.

Please help us by using the sign in sheets properly.

Many thanks,
Terry

Round Robin & Regular Play on Thurs. Oct. 22

Hello everyone,

This is to let you know that Thursday Oct. 22nd is a round robin night.  Round robins are restricted to those 14 years of age and older.  There will be regular play for those that don’t enter the round robins.

If you intend to play in one of the round robins you must arrive by 7:15 that night and register with Mark who will then set up the draw sheets.  Players in the round robins must be prepared to stay till 9:30 if necessary.

For those who are new to the club, here’s how the round robins work.  Each court is assigned 4 or 5 players of roughly equal ability.  A round robin is played where you partner with each player on your court multiple times.  Based on the results you move up or down in the club's rankings for the next round robin.  It's basically a promotion/relegation system where the top performer is promoted one court, the bottom performer is relegated down one court, and the middle performers stay put.  It's also dependent on which players participate on any given night.

See you on court,
Terry
