Tues. Sept. 29 General Meeting with Pizzas

Hello everyone,

On Tues. Sept. 29th, regular play will be interrupted for 30 minutes from 7:45 to 8:15 for a General Meeting.  Everyone can have a slice of pizza while the executive updates you briefly about the club's operations and receives your input.

Please make a special effort to come out on the 29th.

Many thanks,
Terry

Round Robin & Regular Play on Tues. Sept. 22nd

Hello everyone,

This is to let you know that Tuesday Sept. 22nd is the club’s first round robin night of the season.  Round robins are restricted to those over 13 years old.  Courts will be available for regular play for those that don’t enter the round robins.  Joan and I will likely choose regular play to make sure both kinds of play take place that night.

If you intend to play in one of the round robins you must arrive by 7:15 that night and register with Mark who will then set up the draw sheets.  Players in the round robins must be prepared to stay till 9:30 if necessary.

For those who are new to the club, here’s how the round robins work.  Each court is assigned 4 or 5 players of roughly equal ability.  A round robin is played where you partner with each player on your court multiple times.  Based on the results you move up or down in the club's rankings for the next round robin.  It's basically a promotion/relegation system where the top performer is promoted one court, the bottom performer is relegated down one court, and the middle performers stay put.  It's also dependent on which players participate on any given night.

See you on court,
Terry

Badminton startup

Hello everyone,

We hope you’ve all had a good summer regardless of the highly variable weather.

Badminton starts on Tuesday September 8th and will run through to Thursday June 16th, with that period split into two sessions. Regular play will run from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. every night.

PIZZA /General Meeting Night:
Tuesday Sept. 29th will be a PIZZA/General Meeting Night to discuss the following situations/changes, round robin nights, executives, volunteers, etc.

==========//=========
COACHING:
6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays are again reserved for coaching. However our coach, Gill Singh, recently fell and hurt his back and both rotator cuffs so is probably out of commission for the whole of the first session. The coaching sessions will be cancelled unless someone else volunteers to take over for Gill.

SESSIONS & FEE CHANGES:
Because the fees for the first session are always the same as those for the second, we feel it makes sense to adjust the sessions so they have approximately the same number of play nights. As an experiment, the first session will run until January 28th, with the second session starting Feb 2nd.

The combined fee for 2 sessions will be $80 for adults and $40 for juniors (under 19 yrs. old), unchanged from last year, but only if paid in a single payment. If players choose instead to pay for each session individually at the beginning of each session, the fee will be $45 per session for adults and $25 per session for juniors.

The alternative to paying session fees is pay by-the-night guest fees. Those fees are unchanged at $5 per night for adults and $2 per night for juniors. By-the-night players can convert from guest status to session members at any time by paying the appropriate session fee adjusted by a portion of the guest fees they’ve already paid. If the conversion occurs in the second night played, the first night’s fee will be credited 100%. If the conversion occurs at any later time, the credit will be 50% of all nightly fees already paid.

See you on court soon.
