No badminton on Thursday, round robins resume Oct 12th

No badminton Thursday October 5th as the school is not available.   Belleville Badminton Club will be open and welcomes guests.  $5 guest fee.  Be aware that Belleville is an adult club for those aged 19 and over.

Thursday October 26th is a late start at 8:00 but we'll stay later until 10:00.

Round robin nights are scheduled for Thursday October 12th and Tuesday October 24th.  While round robins ran smoothly last year they were poorly attended by Madoc regulars.  Round robins make a significant financial contribution to our club and help offset membership fees.  They also raise the profile of our club with the local badminton community.  Many guests that attended in May and June were introduced to the club via the round robins.  As an executive we encourage you to support the round robins to demonstrate that Madoc remains the logical choice to host them going forward.

Players participating in round robins must be at least 14 years old, must sign in by 7:20, and must be prepared to stay until 9:30 if necessary.  Courts will be available for regular play for those not playing in the round robin.

Our general meeting will be held Tuesday October 10th at 8:00 pm.  We'll keep it to 15 minutes or less so that we can get back on the courts.

Full schedule available on the club's calendar.

Team Tournament a resounding success

We hosted our first annual Team Tournament May 6th.  The tournament was a tremendous success.  The day proceeded without a hitch and the feedback from participants was extremely positive.

Big “Thank You" to our chair  Henry.  He put an incredible amount of effort into the organization.  All that effort resulted in a tournament that was not only fun on court and on the sidelines, but was lots of fun after play ended when prizes were distributed.  I’ve been to many different tourneys in my 50+ years of badminton and have never seen one that was supported by so many sponsors.  Through their generosity (and Henry's considerable effort) the tourney supplied complimentary refreshments, the competition prizes, the many draw prizes, and giveaway swag-bags for participants and volunteers.  As well, player donations and a portion of registration fees were used to contribute goods and $200 to local food banks.

Much appreciation to our volunteers (Ross, Andy, Terry, Joan, Dan, Anil, Margaret) whose efforts resulted in a seamless tournament.  And our gratitude to the Belleville Club (particularly Tom and Kay) who showed a tremendous generosity of spirit in sharing the infrastructure of their established tournament.

Thanks to everyone that attended and made the day what it was.  There really was a fun "vibe".

On behalf of the rest of the club,
Terry Mandzy, Pres.

Happy New Year 2017

We hope you’ve had a good Christmas break and are looking forward to playing badminton again. That’ll burn off some of the extra calories taken in over the holiday.

Badminton resumes on Tues. Jan. 10th. January will be a busy month, as follows:

Henry will be available every Thursday in the 6 to 7 p.m. time slot, in the small gym, for juniors and anyone else who wants special coaching. Please arrange your sessions with him ahead of time when you’re at the club, or via 613-395-5798 or via email to henry.toews@yahoo.com.

Two round robin nights are scheduled for January (Thurs. Jan. 12 and Tues. Jan. 24). As usual, courts will be available for regular play for those who don’t play in the round robins. Round robin players must check in with Mark by 7:15, must be at least 14 years old, and must be prepared to stay until 9:30.

January 26 is the Glen Crowley Night, a night that unfortunately couldn’t be scheduled before Christmas because of school events and Glen’s other commitments. Besides being able to make minor repairs onsite, Glen will have a wide range of badminton stuff for sale (socks, shoes, tops, grips, bags, etc) and may have demonstrator racquets to try out.

The club’s 10th anniversary occurs in January, on Jan. 12 to be exact. We’ll have a special anniversary/pizza night in February, date yet to be decided. We may hold a General Meeting on the same night.

See you on court,

The Exec.
